Notes:
This album is supposed to be about love and sleep. The whole idea was to have a response to the last song on The Lonesome Sea, “Sunset Ode.”
1. Sea Number Seven
A song about the sea and sleeping children. Hold your breath, and the words will come in with the wind.
2. I Saw An Angel
William Blake claimed to see apparitions of angels. This song is not about apparitions. Or William Blake. I wish it were, though. It would be a better song.
3. All Roads Lead To Helen
Helen is in North Georgia. So is Lavonia and Taccoa. Great places. Weird things happen there. There are always many ways to get to Helen.
4. The Island of Malta
Trust and Luck are towns in the mountains of North Carolina. Hope, Faith, and Charity are biplanes on the island of Malta. And tigers are tigers.
5. The Devil Has A Map
Wanting to know the future is like wishing for blindness. When I close my eyes, I see the face of a friend. At the end of this is an unlisted song called “The Devil’s Daydream.”
6. Rowboat of Stone
Every pond in North America has at least one giant sleeping turtle. And they all have a secret: there’s nothing to say. Mixed and made good by our friends in Super Furry Animals.
7. The Lonesome Sea
The Carter Family have a song called “Sinking in The Lonesome Sea.” This song came out of that song.
8. Someday
Deep in the forest with the lions and the bears, you gotta use the branches when there ain’t no stairs. All your careless thoughts remain.
9. Nevada
One of my favorite Asheville bands is called Nevada. Tomorrow will make today a better place.
10. Love Is All You Need To Sleep
A lullaby about children and confidence. This should put you to sleep. Throw all your blankets on the floor.
11. The Rose of Greenland
This is about finding someone far, far away, and then having to say goodbye forever.
12. Goodbye Hyannisport (outtake)
They'll have to get someone else to be president other than me. This song is about a plane crash and lost hope.
13. All I Want Is Your Love (outtake)
A troubled and lost narrator tries to explain gravity to the wind.
